Wiring completed!

Carrying on from last time, most of the issues on the list were sorted out. Front wipers seem to be a bit intermittent, probably a loose connection somewhere. The NS front indicator needed a better earth connection, I did the same "bodge" as on the rear lights. This basically involves stripping about 15mm of wire back, feeding it into the holder against the side then inserting the bulb, which sandwiches the wire between the the bulb and body. Then just lead it away to a suitable earth. Bad practice I guess but it works...

The OS sidelight had a rusty bulb holder which just needed cleaning; the fuel gauge sprang into life once I sorted out a better earth connection. Good stuff.

To round off the wiring chapter heres a couple of better pics of the layout. The new fuse/relay box:

You can see the wires coming in over to top and to the right from the dash and a tangle of brown earth wires connected to the aluminium panel. Two cables run to the dash to provide an earth point there, one to the rear and two to the battery earth point at the front of the chassis. The connectors to the left run either to the engine bay; following the original wiring layout, or to the rear.

Once it gets to the rear it looks like this in the NS boot cubby box...

Theres the black wrapped wires from the front, signal and earth from the tank and the thick earth wire. The earth plugs into a terminal block with 6 spades on it, which was then wrapped up in some loom tape. I'd ran out of black wire at this point hence the multi coloured earth wires. Plug 15 to the top right is for the rear wipe and wash, haven't decided if I'll install that or not yet. Don't think the current rear wipe motor works so don't think I will! Plug 17 in the middle is for the lights and fuel sender, that heads off to, well, the rear lights. All the light wires carry on for a couple of foot from the OS light cluster and are currently floating around the boot. They will eventually be taken into the OS cubby once I've drilled a suitable hole and then to the trailer socket. Plug 16 on the left runs off up the window pillar to the interior lights and heated window. Currently unplugged as it sets the light warning buzzer off when its plugged in, thinking a short in the interior lights...

Interiors looking a bit worse for wear...

Door cards came off to sort out the door wiring and won't be going back on. They've got damp, rotted away at the bottom and warped out of shape at the top. Centre console will be installed once I've sorted out wiring for the windows and handbrake. Could do with a vacuum too...

And finally...

The multi coloured headlight surrounds came about as the originals were split. These are both off the same red car, just the nearside one's been stripped back to the gelcoat. They'll both get painted in due course.
